Barrel 648, Started maturing on April 4, 2024. It’s a 225L French oak barrel that was previously used to make Madeira Wine.

Aging:

It began aging on August 31, 2022. It was aged in American oak ex-bourbon wood in a 200 L barrel.

In September 2024, I had the unexpected opportunity to taste a Madeira Wine barrel sample with the AMIGOS DEL MAGUEY group at the EL TEQUILEÑO distillery. Despite being aged for less than five months, it already displayed impressive complexity with delicate hints of Madeira wine. Unfortunately, this particular barrel wasn’t available for selection at that time.

I returned to the distillery in mid-October for another tasting. The spirit had developed further since my previous visit, but it was still being reserved for a special project by the distillery and wasn’t for sale.

In December, I visited once more and tasted the barrel with Tony. It had matured beautifully by then, and by a stroke of luck, an opportunity to select this barrel suddenly became available, which I immediately seized.
