Balcones Texas Single Malt — Four-Cask Series | Madeira Finish | 63.5% ABV (127 Proof)
A single malt that refuses to sit still. This release from Balcones is a study in oak — matured across European oak, French oak, and American oak, then finished in Madeira casks for a final layer of richness that ties it all together. Four woods, one whisky, bottled at a full-throttle 127 proof.
The European and French oak bring structure and spice — baking spices, toasted hazelnut, and a firm tannic backbone. American oak layers in the familiar warmth of vanilla, caramel, and honeyed malt. Then the Madeira finish takes over: dried figs, raisin, burnt orange, and a nutty, wine-soaked sweetness that lingers long after the glass is empty.
At cask strength, this is unapologetically bold — dense, oily, and packed with the roasted, chocolatey depth that Balcones’ Golden Promise barley is known for. A few drops of water open it up into stewed fruit, toffee, and dark honey.
Tasting Notes
- Nose:Â Fig jam, toasted oak, dark chocolate, orange peel, malted honey
- Palate: Rich and viscous — raisin, baking spice, hazelnut, caramelized sugar, Madeira sweetness
- Finish:Â Long and warming, with dried fruit, cocoa, and lingering oak spice
This is single malt for drinkers who want intensity and complexity in equal measure. Limited availability — once it’s gone, it’s gone.
